CARE & MAINTENANCE OF NEW CONCRETE:
Sealing your new concrete can help protect the surface from damage caused by road salts and brine that are used by the department of highways in the Winter months for Snow and Ice control. Concrete Sealer will NOT keep your concrete from damage during the Winter months. The first Winter is the most crucial time for new concrete. Salt, Liquid Salt, Liquid calcium Chloride, Liquid Magneisium Chloride and Swine Urea is used on local roadways during the Winters. ALL of these products have the potential to cause surface scaling, spaling or Delamination. YOU SHOULD NEVER USE ANY PRODUCT FOR SNOW REMOVAL OR ICE CONTROL other than SAND or CAT LITTER!!!
The proper way to handle Snow Removal or Ice Control is to first, shovel off as much of the snow as possible with a PLASTIC SNOW SHOVEL. Metal shovels used for Snow Removal can cause chipping of the new concrete. Second, once the shoveling is done apply SAND or CAT LITTER to the travel areas of your concrete.
Sealing new concrete can help prevent the above known issues from chemical applications to concrete, but is NOT A GUARANTEE IT WILL PREVENT DAMAGE to the surface. Applying Sealer to concrete also helps the prevention of stains from leaves, silt, rust, oils from vehicles and bird droppings. Concrete sealer can be applied every (2) to (3) years. It is recommended to first pressure wash your concrete before applying the new coat of sealer to remove any embedded dirt or debris.
PROPER CARE OF YOUR NEW CONCRETE will add many years to the surface life and looks to your new concrete.
